USTA League Eastern section early start ratings are available

The most recent section releasing their early start ratings is the Eastern section.  They have lists for men and women and these ratings will apply to Fall Day Leagues, Tri-Level Leagues and Mixed Doubles Leagues that start prior to the end of the year.

As usual, I've had some customers from the section get Estimated Dynamic NTRP Rating Reports and I checked the most recent 10 reports I did and correctly predicting the early start ratings for 9 of them.  This continues the accuracy from prior early start list checks I've had in the Florida, Pacific Northwest, Texas, and Northern sections.

  1. There is a 3.5 guy whose early start rating is 4.5. Interesting...

    3. So this player was a pretty strong 3.5 at 2013 year-end, so didn't have far to go to get to 4.0. And he played both 3.5 and 4.0 racking up a 25-3 record with 13 straight wins at the end. My ratings didn't quite have him to 4.5, but was just a few hundredths short, so it is believable that he'd be bumped up to 4.5.

The key reason is the playing up at 4.0 and the thorough/convincing wins at 3.5. And while two losses were at 3.5, they were to a player that was bumped up to 4.0 and earlier in the season and the other loss was at 4.0.

    4. Very interesting. I also see that (one of) this player's 3.5 team(s) has advanced to Nationals. If I understand benchmarking correctly, his results at Nationals would have a huge impact on what his final rating will end up being.

    5. Correct, playoff results do carry extra weight in year-end calculations. So they will go a long way to determining if he stays at 4.5. But merely by playing against other 3.5s, even though they are likely higher rated having made it to Nationals, his rating could actually drop even if he wins. So because he goes to Nationals, his rating could end up as a 4.0 instead of 4.5.
