2012 Northwest Washington Adult League Local Playoffs are Complete

The local playoffs for the Northwest Washington Adult League were played this past weekend and with their completion, the local season is complete.  Congratulations to all the teams that have advanced to sectionals.  I'm working on updated estimated ratings and will have them posted shortly.

As I'm sure folks have noticed, my ratings have been just for Northwest Washington.  As teams move to sectionals, it may be interesting to see how the teams from the other parts of the Pacific Northwest section stack up.  Further, I'd hate to put the Northwest Washington teams at a disadvantage by only having their estimated ratings published.

So, I'm working on the other areas and hope to have something soon.  If you are interested in these ratings, please leave a comment on this blog with what would be most interesting to you.

  1. Hi-

I am on a team that qualified for sectionals. We'd greatly welcome if you'd publish ratings of other areas. Thanks

    1. @Anonymous, what gender/level/flight did you qualify for sectionals at?

  2. Start with the PNW regions:southwest Washington, Oregon, and Alaska. Then move onto nationals for qualified teams.

  3. Yes, I actually have done it for all sections in the PNW, except I haven't included playoffs yet. I hope to have it ready soon.

  4. Hello Kevin-- Thanks again for all this hard work. It sure is fascinating to read. How does it affect your rating for those individuals who didn't play on a team that advanced; but, as an individual or doubles team (handedly) beat the women or men (during the regular season) that advanced to sectionals and/or nationals? When it's all said and done, are the ratings recalibrated? Just wondering.

Either way, your computer ratings sure are appreciated!

  5. @Anonymous, what you are asking about is handled, I believe, by the benchmark calculations. I don't know exactly how this works and have not implemented it yet, but I believe that when calculating a year end rating, half of the rating comes from the Dynamic NTRP and half comes from the result of doing a calculation against benchmark players. This is in effect the "recalibration" you ask about and is done to try to normalize a given rating across the sections.

  6. would be great if you could put out updated ratings before the early starts hit. that way we can compare your ratings vs. actual bumps for accuracy.

  7. Thank you for the insight about the "recalibrations." Also, in the interest of Title IX (kidding, sort of) and just women's sport in general, when will you have the women's updated computer ratings? I stumbled upon this site, but have got my women's USTA team interested in being a part of your "following." As a USTA captain, I'd love to spread the word about this site...

    Thanks again.
